The Word “Just”

I’ll just follow up with them.

I’ll just take care of it.

I’ll just call them.

When running Printavo, I found myself saying this a lot.

I could get the job done faster; why wouldn’t I do it. I also wanted the task done the way I wanted it done. In my writing style, my process, or with my double-checks. The way I’d personally do it.

More than that, if I just do the task, I don’t need to teach someone else how to do it, which would take way longer than just doing it.

Ok. Now multiply this thought process by 4x a day, 5x a week, 52x a year.

1,040 times in a year, I bottlenecked a process from happening without me.

What a terrible way of running of my business.

With the goal of getting on top of my business, this decision was pointing me in the opposite direction.

If you feel yourself doing the same thing I was, I challenge you to not “just do it” anymore.

Can you ask an employee to handle it going forward? Can you let the team self-solve the issue? Can you not do it, and things will be fine?

Let’s be more self-aware of our “justice,” make the time investment, and never handle the task again.
