Reflecting

I recently watched a Tom Brady documentary as it followed him around becoming one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. As expected, he spent a significant time in the gym and on the field practicing. Running drills and physically doing the work to improve.

What was suprising, is that he spends ~20hrs/week review tape.

Tom Brady doesn’t spend every hour in the gym or on the field. He spends a lot of time watching tape and strategizing . Reflecting and analyzing to improve.

Why don’t we do that?

We’re business athletes. We have to be mentally fit, physically capable, and perform for employees and customers.

I was very week-to-week focused running my shop, then Printavo for many years. It made me realize that reflecting is the only way to truly improve your position as owner, and your business.

Review the tape.

Quarterly, take time out to to evaluate how you and your business performed.

  • How was revenue performance against plan? What about profit?
  • Do we have right people in the right seats?
  • How do YOU as owner improve?

See where this is going?

Write it down and revisit each quarter to either see the same results/no change, or positive change.
